When you reformat Windows XP, it renames secondary or external HD. Since it renamed it to "F", it goes: "C" for primary HD, "D" for secondary HD or primary OD (optical drive, such as DVD+/-RW, CD-ROM, etc.), "E" for third HD, secondary OD, "F" for fourth slave HD. It can also go on, YOU have to rename them to the proper letter. To do this,
  1. Log on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
  2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance.
  3. Click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management in the left pane.
  4. Right-click the drive, the partition, the logical drive, or the volume that you want to assign a drive letter to, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths.
  5. Click Change.
  6. Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, click the drive letter that you want to use, and then click OK.
  7. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm the drive letter change.
Hope this helps!

Thanks jmarket.
HD already changed. But problem with files persist now in new renamed D Disk.
Is very strange that the rest of files and documents in My documents File open without problems but not that one specifically.

some people toll me that is possible a virus but i have norton updated. At this moment loaded Unibue SpeedUpMyPC. I Doint Know is this the way.
Best regards

Thumbs up Re: Files cant open

MAYBE your secondary HD is either improperly connected or is dead. It's a possibility. Does your computer see your "D" drive? If not, it can't read off of it. If it can, then maybe Windows XP can't see your HD because it doesn't have the correct drivers for it. Here's the thing, when you install Windows XP on a computer, it only installs drivers for the components connected to the computer. If you add another HD, for example, then Windows will refuse to install drivers for it and allow you to access it. Then, either it can't be read or access is denied. That has been a major problem for Microsoft. Make sure you're always learning something new about computers everyday!!! Thanks!

Hello,

Could you open My Computer and see if the hard drive is listed?

Right click on My Computer and choose properties/hardware tab/device manager/is the hard drive listed?Try update of the driver.

Does the hard drive show in disk management and what does it show the partition as?

Try this for me:

How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP

Let me know what happens please.

JB.
