you state you updated xp, then rebooted then it started to blue screen?

It started with a bleck screen with several alternatives to try. I tried the one that said something like return to last good configuration. It goes to the blue screen from there. As I stated earlier there is a setting to try for advanced users, but I believe it cautions one to not use it if not computer savy.
