i dont have a security tab
im using microsoft windows xp professional edition
i have a sharing tab but no security
and as far as the "profiles" only one is available to log on to but its just an empty name and everytime i do long on to it it creates a new profile folder ( what you would see under windows explorer(( right clicking start button then clicking explore)))

but no matter how many profile folders there are there is only one log on icon in the log on page.
and if i do safe mode it makes new admin accounts
.
it doesnt offer me a choice of what account to log in to and i cant log in to my original account. ( the one i had before i rebuilt the registry) i can only log in to the account created after the rebuild and even then i cant log in to the same one twice.

o an one more thing under computer management and users and groups all is correct. it only shows the secret admin account ( only 1 of them and its the correct one) and my original account ( the correct one) no other account is listed there adn im pretty sure thats a step towards something good lol.

i need to log in to original account somehow. or re activate the orginal account instead of the others and then move the info over to add to the orginal and then delete the old ones.

or can i just make a new permanent profile and move ALL of my info over to the new from from the orginal.. ( that includes ALL my programs, all folders, all favorite, all setting , all configurations, all administrative abilites and full control over the pc and all sub areas as well.

because no matter what i tell a new account to be it wont be recognized as full admin its like admin limbo and still no matter what only recognizes the untouchable orginal as the only true admin profile besides the sercet safe mode admin account.....

*sigh* why cant i just have normal pc issues like oh noes my pc has a virus or my keyboard needs a new driver -_- this computers gonna drive me to drinking lol

When you say you rebuilt your registry I assume you repaired with the files from the repair folder. Did you not have any restore points to use for the registry repair? If you did then I would go back into recovery console and use the files from the latest restore point before you experienced problems. The problem with using such an old registry backup is that all the registry entries for any software, etc you installed since that date will be missing.

As for the security tab - to get this in My Computer click Tools > Folder Options > select the View tab. Scroll down Use Simple File Sharing and remove the tick. You should now have access to the security tab but I don't think it will help your problem unless you just need temporary access to the files in those accounts so you can copy them to another account.

To see if the other usernames still exist do the following:
Click Start > Run > type: control userpasswords2 > Click OK
Do the other user accounts exist? If not you will need to repair the registry again from recovery console using the latest registry files before you had problems. Please post back if you want to try this and I'll give you the instructions.

hey thank for the response.
as for the 1st thing i have no restore points at all. none -_- whichis why i had to use the old registry thing

2nd thing i did the security thing and it worked so i guess put that on stand by till the time comes i need to use it or remeber what i was supposed to do with it

and the 3rd thing
only my correct admin profile and correct orginal profile show up. the Josh profile i want and the admin i wan are the only ones there. the new ones that keep replicating arent in there.
but i cant physically log on to it. its like it doesnt exist or is inactive. the only way i know the orginal profiles still exist is because i can see them in the explorer window. my computer hates me

ps. the irony here is that when i worked for SSA ( social security administration) i got 100s of calls a day to fix this exact issue. and it was like a year ago and no i cant remeber what the heck i did XD

Josh,

If you go to (on XP)

C:\Documents And Settings

Are all of your user accounts listed there?

It could be that the accounts are disabled somehow. If the folders are listed under Documents And Settings then you can at least recover files from them and if you really want the accounts, recreate them.

You may also want to see if they show up in Safe Mode. I don't think they will though.

This problem was fixed by creating a new user profile and taking ownership of the old profiles files and folders then copying all the old profiles settings across to the new one.

Due to the fact that the registry was repaired with an old copy from the repair folder without making a backup first all programs that were previously installed had to be reinstalled as they no longer worked or showed up in add/remove programs.
