how can i disable a particular background process i want ?

before sometime,i installed pc suite of nokia n72.after that, internet seems to be slow.i saw in the task manager.it is using some more ram.

anyway already iam using a slow internet connection only.
for now i uninstalled pc suite of nokia n72.

also that ituneshelper.exe always runs in the background.i want to stop that too.

Hiyas davesam!

Not knowing which OS you are running, one place to start would be the programs themselves. Many have the option to run at boot up or not. You'll need to check to see which have that option.

When a program is disabled at startup, it will run normally once activated, but as you have noted... too many things running in the background doesn't help performance when they aren't needed.

There is a place to run a selective startup, as in, only boots up the programs you need to have and the others will come in when they are needed.

A thought.

Go here and get Autoruns, this a better utility to use than Msconfig.

AutoRuns for Windows

Use the Logon tab to untick thing that you do not want to startup.

To get rid of iTunes stuff from starting up

Autoruns

iTunes Helper Unticked
Quicktime Task Unticked

Then go to Windows Services, right mouse click on the My Computer icon, select Manage / Services and Managment / Services, and disable the following.

Apple Mobile Device Disabled
Bonjour Service Disabled
iPod Service Manual
