hi guys,recently my xp has been playing up,reckons there was missing windows files,etc,my friend suggested i use my format disk to repair it,i did so,but since i did that ,i don`t get the missing files error message,but it is real slow to start up and real slow to get anywhere,now i have lost the task bar,i tried to reformat but it declined to format over the top,is there any way to erase my xp home so i can format fresh again,i really need help please......

Did you try rebooting from the Windows CD?
Maybe try that because i had similar problem like that but when i booted for the windows CD,it let me do the reformat.

In Start go to Run:

Type sfc /scannow

This command scans your System files to make sure they are all there and in working order.

It may prompt you for your XP CD when the command runs.

Do you have anti-virus? If the issue persists it may be a malware infection. If sfc /scannow does not change things I suggest running the Prework in my signature. Then I'll take a look at your logs.

hi crush,thanks for your reply,yes i have avg antivirus,while i was waiting for a reply,i was browsing the forum and i came across a post that said before i reformat,i had to delete the previous windows in the partition,well i have never had to do that before,but anyway i did it and now it is formatting as we speak,i will wait the outcome,much appreciated...
