Hi guys, okay the HDD in question seems to be operating fine on the other machine.
Cheers for the pdf I'm gonna take a closer look at some point tomorrow, RTFM never seems to hit home with me lol.
However one question, I understand the differences between SATA and IDE, and all that stuff but how would the RAID config effect the PC? as in produce that error message if I didn't get it during the original test with home.
Also the DELL recovery discs are nowhere to be found I was hoping that a retail version of XP with maybe a SATA driver (intel storage matrix thing) & other drivers if needed, would be all I need for a clean install.
Eitherway I'm gonna leave it for tonight but if you guys come up with anything, I'll be checking here first thing in the morning :-)

Ok peeps, here's that error message:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical information: *** STOP: 0X0000007B (0XF78DA63C, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X000000) if that helps |

Yes, according to Microsoft, the error is usually caused by either a lack of drivers for the HDD, a boot-sector virus, or a hardware malfunction. I think we can rule out hardware malfunction if it works on your other PC. Let's go the driver route, like elpmek suggested should be done.
