Installing Kaspersky could have made it slower. I read about a problem in Kaspersky with the active protection causing 100% CPU Usage.

Have you turned off all visual effects, increased the paging file and turned of as many services as you can and all startup programs?

Usually that helps.

Click Start > Run > type in msconfig and go to the Startup tab and click Disable All.

On the services tab, click the box for Hide All Microsoft Servies and delete the ones you dont need.

If you have done all that as listed above then that's about the fastest it will go. Your only option then would be to upgrade. Although I think buying a new laptop may be cheaper and/or more worthwhile than upgrading.

Or if your wife isn't going to be on the move a lot and the laptop would just be for home use, consider purchasing or building a desktop PC. They are at least half the price of a laptop with the same spec.

Hello there,How much free space is on the hard drive?

How much RAM do yoy have fitted?

Open command prompt under system tools and copy and paste in this command chkdsk /r and hit enter on your keyboard. If you get a message cannot run at this time etc press Y on your keyboard and again hit enter or type exit and hit enter.

Restart the computer and let chkdsk run let me know the results please.

Download and run this:CCleaner - Home

If you think you may have an infection please do the "prework" link in red below on my signiture.

Try an update of hard ware drivers plus your chipset from the machines manufacturers website support tab.

JB.
