My suggestion right now is to run Memtest to eliminate memory as a possible cause and then if it passes it might just be a good idea to rule out malware too.
That means clicking on the "prework" in my signature and following instructions precisely. Post back the results of Memtest first though.

 I'm more and more inclined to wonder about malware to be honest. I can also assure you that I've got lots of experience with running XP Pro on machines with 512MB RAM, 1GB RAM, and 2GB RAM, and trust me the difference between 1GB and 2GB is night and day if you are doing heavy duty stuff such as gaming, picture editing etc. It also looks like you haven't kept up with Windows Updates as you are still on SP2.
