I have an IBM ThinkPad Laptop with Windows XP. All sound was lost when battery discharged due to adaptor failure. After recharge, system had been reconfigured with no sound. Return to earlier configurations did not help. Windows troubleshooting Help does not show a problem. PC Doctor tests on Speakers failed (Code 31 pcdrwav, Code1 engine), and microphone test failed (Code 12 pcdrmicrophone, Code 1 engine). The Sound scheme is set at Windows Default and Volume/Audio/Voice are on SoundMax Digital Audio. Drivers test out OK. Speakers are on and all volumes are set to max. I don't know how to proceed without seeking Professional help. Sounds like a driver problem somewhere but driver tests check out. Thanks for any assistance, Gerritin NJ.

Firstly could you check what errors it displays in device manager.

Try to update sound drivers via device manager.
