Default DVD R problem when switched back to XP...

Hello all.

I recently just switched back to XP from Vista and everything was fine until i tried to use the dvd writer. My computer simply wont read any CD-R's or DVD-R's after i switched.

When i open My Computer, it says (F:.) CD Drive, and when i try to access it i get the message 'F:\ is not accessible. Incorrect Function'

I have a 18x DVD RW and the works and i was able to burn video, music and data no problem when i was on Vista (and previously when i was back on XP some time ago) but now it just wont read it.

The strange thing is, it reads normal DVDs and Cds fine.

Any ideas?

Windows XP does not have native support for dvd burners till you install software that supports dvds.

Some media players that get bundled with the dvd drive have the necessary codec to read dvd's. If your came with software install that and enjoy.

Or Media Player Classic will play dvds out of the box with no problems, I use this in preference to WMP.

Installing burning software gives you this support as well...

Microsoft does not support dvd reading, but if ur also have trouble reading normal cds like a normal drive, you may need to make sure XP is up to its latest service pack (3) if this is not ur issue...

Shut down ur pc, unplug the pc, remove ur dvd device, start windows, shut down windows install ur device, see if windows detects the ur device.. if not,go to the manufactor websire generally they will contain ur firmware / drivers for ur device...

most devices have option roms built in so BIOS can see it, if its being detected in BIOS u have a working device, so really its in the matters of having proper drivers...
