After I log in my screen stays blank it just shows the wallpaper.
I can do ctrl-alt-delete and open task manager but thats about it.
pc model hp pavilion 763n
os xp pro 2002 service pack 2
processor intel pentium 4 cpu 2.53 GHz

Have you tried pressing F8 during boot and attempting a "Last known good config" ?
