Default D: drive question

My presario has an 80GB drive. It is split so there is a 70.3GB c drive and a 4.13GB d drive. The c drive has 49GB free. The d drive has only 630MB free. Is there a way to increase the size of the d drive without reformatting?

It may be that the D: drive is your recovery partition that being an image of the original set up so you can if neccessary reset your pc to factory settings. I would advise not tampering with this partition as you could end up corrupting it's contents and that would render it useless

just plain dave agrees: Probably good advice to leave it alone.

If it is a recovery console, then leave it alone and then repartition your c drive to make 2 smaller drives if that's what you need. In Vista, you can repartition on the fly using the disc management feature via compmgmt.msc

In XP, you'll need another application, and I'd suggest backing up your data before reformating regardless!

I will heed your advice. I tried to de-frag the D: drive and it said I didn't have sufficient space. I will just leave it alone.

Many thanks,

For the sake of 640MB it's safer left alone after all it's not quite enough space to fill a CDr. If you need more disk space, may I suggest an external hard drive asthey are relatively cheap.

I'll mark as answered
