Hi everyone,
I'll try and keep this as short as I possibly can! Any help at all with this would be really fantastic.
I have been having a rather severe problem with my PC for quite a while now and I will explain as follows.
The current problem.
My system will hang unexplainably. Total freeze - no data is being read or written to the hard drive, if my music player is running it loops and my mouse pointer eventually stops responding. 80% of the time this happens when the system is under load, ie if i'm running or loading more than one program. The other 20% of the time it just happens totally randomly. I then have to do a hard reboot or the system could just sit there for hours frozen.
I've checked system logs and they have no error messeges in them. I've run the manufacturers diagnostic tool for my hard drive and also memtest+ and they both show no errors. Full virus scans and spyware scans do not show anything either.
The programs that run on start up and always run are as follows:
avast! antivirus
Comodo firewall
Realtek HD audio manager
NVIDIA settings manager
Belkin bluetooth manager
The most common programs that I run are
MediaMonkey 3
Firefox 3
Google Chrome
Digsby
Windows Live Messenger.
CCleaner
Defraggler
This is the latest problem. The following problem has happened in the past and has occured about three times now.
All of the above has happened, but when i have to do the hard reboot the PC states that System32 is corrupt or missing. I've then had to do a full reinstall of windows xp.
I've tried to include all that I can about this and would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions anyone might have. Please feel free to email me or message if you need any other info from me.
Thanks guys
Mike

after the re-install of windows does it still freeze ? if so then it sounds like a driver problem, right click my computer then on the hardware tab click device manager and see if you have any yellow question marks. post back and let us know please

Hi guys, thanks for the quick reply!
Hope this answers all your questions. All the drivers are update and there are no yellow question marks or conflicts. The following info I got using SIW (System Information for Windows). Motherboard - ALiveNF6G-VSTA PSU - No idea Sensor - Winbond W83627EHF CPUTIN 41 celcius Info from the Processor section: CORE#0 25 celcius CORE#1 23 celcius HDD temp 33 Celcius Graphics Name GeForce 6150SE Chip Type GeForce 6150SE DAC Type Integrated RAMDAC Memory 512 MBytes (but running at 128 MBytes) Sound Realtek HD Audio (so i'm guessing this is all software based) Memory AENEON 1024mb DDR2 RAM Part no. AET760UD00-30DA98X drdroopy I haven't reseated the memory (if by that you mean physically taking it out and then putting it back in). |

Thanks driver_ian! All this is very much appreciated.
Just a little update for you all. My pc started acting a little odd, when I say odd it wouldn't load my IM client or anything else for that matter, but it still responded to my music player which was already running. So I restarted the PC via the start menu as normal and chkdsk ran. I proceeded to delete a load of orphan file fragments and index entries before rebooting the PC and loading up windows. When this happened before it was usually a precurser to the major screw up with the System32 file. **EDIT** Another system hang, this time it was only firefox 3 running with my usual startup programs. Had a word with a bloke at work today and he said it could be the nVidia chipset i'm using that could be the problem. He's had experience with chipsets and says that they're nothing but trouble. What do you guys think?
