Default frozen memory

First off, i am confused. i bought a Intel Celeron D356
3.33 GHz 512 KB L2 cache
533 MHz FSB
512 MB DDR SDRAM
Media Center Edition 2005
This was purchased in Dec 2006
It crashed from a virus in Sept 2007. I took it to a computer repair, along with my e-machine back-up disc.
I am quite sure I did not get home with the same thing.
What the repair people installed was Intel Celeron 3.33 GHz
368 MB Ram
Windows XP Professional Version 2002
Service Pack 3
I realize there is nothing I can do now, but my virtual memory keeps coming up low. I did adjust the paging file to 768 initial size
1148 max
Not that I know what I am doing, but read several articles on ram and paging files. this has seemed to speed up the "puter"
but will just close when in internet explorer 7 I have had 7 for over a year and no problems. When i play games the screen becomes jumpy and the game stops in midstream. you can hear the fan running loudly on the computer (like it might be trying to reboot) The computer has also frozen up a couple of times. When on internet, mail games, just about everywhere. Task manager could not end programs, in fact one time could not pull up task manager I have to manually turn off power.. I love my "puter" and love to learn about the operations and behind the screen action. I certainly do not want to ruin or even think that I can fix or go deep into system. I admire the people that can. Is their anything you can tell me that I could do to improve perfomance and stability.. Allso. I ran a scan from Runscanner, then chose ya'll to help.
What do I do with the scan results?
Oh, I also went in and disbled allot of the programs running in the background that was not needed. Like networking, fax etc.

Is that a problem. As I said I know nothing about your forums or getting help. Are you all the same people. I was actually wanting to know something as soon as possible in case I have to go buy memory. Did not mean to offend you or anyone else.

We ask this question because if you are already reciving help on that forum then what help we post here could conflict.
If the other forum tells you to do one thing and we say another this could cause damage to your computer.

It can also confuse you in wich help you recive and who is right and who is wrong.

Hence we ask do you wish to continue reciving help on the other forum or here?

i prefer this forum. After reading other help pages, ya'll seem to be able to communicate without allot of confusion. As i said - I am a beginner. I just have a hard time logging in. Finally I got in and changed my password. Hopefully that helps.
I will not go to any other forums - promise
Thanks

hey do not be silly you can go to any forum for help.It is we would not want to break your computer. If you already recived help elsewere the advice may conflict with eachother.

I did not mean to sound harsh I am sorry.

I would be carefull on what you disable as this could slow or ruin windows.

Ok lets see if we can do some checkups in readyness for the Tech Team.

CCleaner - Home

Can you run the following and post the results please:

SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

Windows XP

1.Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2.In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3.In the Performance pane, click Settings.
4.In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
5.In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
6.Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.
7.Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

You need to update your drivers for your hardware.

Fill in make and model numbers and it will give you drivers to install:eMachines Support: Product Support and Downloads

While powered off I would clean the inside of the computer and rid it of all the dust.

Could you also Click start/run/type in cmd and hit ok/then in black command prompt type chkdsk /r and hit enter see what the results are please.Once that has finished typ in the same bos sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Open your web browser/tools/delete history/cookies and temp files.

I hope this helps.post the results and tech team will help you with the rest of your fixes were needed.

ok i am totally confused. I am guessing cc cleaner is a software program. Do i have to buy this? once i get the program then run test and how do i get you the results?
(told you I don't know about the guts of a puter)
Then you said in virtual memory to change initial size - change to what value? and the same with the maximum value.

also-when running scan how do i get report for you to see?
the only thing I really understand was your last entry, cleaning the temp files. but please be patient. I am older-not old by any means and pretty intelligent. Just give me time and i will be right along beside you, well... maybe. Maybe i should take some computer classes?
