I have an HP pc running Win XP, TrendMicro (always on, updates daily, scans weekly), and SpySweeper (updates daily, scans weekly, always on). These programs were recommended by Geek Squad at Best Buy this summer. I bought the PC 2 years ago.
The PC was working fine yesterday but when I got up today (I leave the PC on 24/7, restarting it every 3 days) my desktop was showing instead of my screensaver.
I moved the mouse but nothing happened. I tried to restart, but again nothing. So I shut it down manually, unplugged it, then restarted it.
Now it only opens to the blue HP screen. When I tried the escape button, or the others that are listed across the bottom of the screen, nothing works.
I tried my reboot cd's and they wouldn't start up either.
I don't go to video sites, or download music, etc.
Although I did download regcure a week ago.
Is this pc a goner or is there something else I can try before taking it to a tech?
Thanks.
Karen

Hey Gran, located near the BIOS battery on your computer mainboard you should see 4 pins, two will have a little plastic jumper on it.Remove the little jumper and put it on the two spare pins for a few minutes. While computer is powered off.
Then remove the jumper and replace back onto the origional two pins.Reboot your computer.
