Default Video Card Failed to Initialize Compaq Presario 22

Compaq Presario 2200 laptop is not booting to Windows XP.

I get an error message right after the Windows XP loading screen (the screen with the loading bar). After the loading screen it goes blank for a few seconds, and finally to a BSOD that says "The Video Driver Failed to Initialize". After that appears, it starts the whole process again.

I tried Windows Recovery. I can't safe mode it, and choosing previous working settings doesn't work either.

Help, please?

Hey Guys,

@ Iamts, my welcome to PCHF as well. Have you done a Repair Install? That is actually different from the Recovery Console, and will replace all of the original system files and drivers. You should not lose your data with a Repair Install, I hope that you have your data backed up, although with things as they are currently that may not be as important to you.

To run a repair install:
Boot up with the XP CD in the drive,

Click any key to boot from Disc

Press Enter at the "what do you want to do screen" (this will install XP)
Accept the EULA agrement, if it comes up
Choose the option to do a repair install

It will reboot.. dont press any key... That simple... It will be done probly in 20 minutes but it always says 39 or somthing close.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Angry Re: Video Card Failed to Initialize Compaq Presari

Yes I did attempt the repair install, to no avail.

Prior to doing the repair install, the computer would load the Windows loading screen (like normal), but it would then freeze at the Compaq Welcome Screen without proceeding to the Windows login screen.

However, after I did the repair install, the BSOD with the message "The video driver failed to initialize" started to replace the Compaq Welcome Screen.

Ok, can you please get me the code at the bottom of the BSOD? Usually starts with a bunch of 0s.

Looking forward to your reply,

Thanks for the help, by the way.
The code is: x000000B4 (There are more codes in parenthesis after this code, but they change every boot up.

You're welcome.

That is exactly the one I was after, unfortunately, all my research is not helping your situation.

Have you done chdsk in the Recovery Console?
If you have run chdsk, the only other option I can see would be to try Fixmbr. Which will repair your master boot record, assuming that's what is causing the vid driver error.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
