Default Virus found

I just recently started using avast and when it started up I saw the following. It said there was a Trojan Horse in c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe The name of the malware is Win32:Agent-ABMO [Trj] I am not sure how to fix this or if it is even real. I already did the boot time scan and it was not able to fix the issue.

I was following the steps for the pre work and ran into a problem. I ran the malwarebytes scan and let it fix everything it found. Then I restarted and could not log into XP. It said that I had to activate windows. I have been using this install for a year and it is a legal version of XP. It came installed on my pc when I bought it. I tried typing in my key and it said my key is not valid. What could have happened? The only thing that I did different to the pc is that scan. I am using my Ubuntu install right now. Thank god I have it otherwise I would not be typing this right now.

Ok but I am not sure how this is being treated as a virus. Windows thinks that I have to activate my version of XP again. But when I try to enter my key it says that the key is invalid. The only possible way I can get into XP is to boot into safe mode. And in safe mode. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to lose my XP install. I don't even think it would be possible for me to reinstall XP cause it already says my key is bad. Even though I have been using that key for over a year and whenever the microsoft website would check to see if my XP install was valid it would pass the validation every time. I don't see why it would deactivate itself now.

Well it started out as a virus problem but now it turned into a very big whole different problem. I really don't feel like buying a new operating system when I already bought it once already. Can anybody help me?
