Default RAM upgrade. How to do & how much is needed.

I was given an old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo pro V2000 laptop recently. Ive just done a complete disc clean/format/re-install with WinXP pro. It only has 40gb drive. But Ive also just noticed its lousy RAM at just 250mb.

I have no experience with physical upgrades so pardon my ignorance;

What would be the right RAM to upgrade to, 1gb or 2gb? What is the exact name of it so I buy the right one? How much do they cost roughly? How do I physically remove the old one & replace with the new? Does it just fit into a slot & then install itself or is there any techy stuff involved.

Thanks for any help offered.

Hi there

This is the exact memory you need: Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pro V2000 - Memory ( RAM ) Upgrade from Orca Logic Ltd - my advice would be to rip out what you have in there and go for the full 2gb..your laptop will think it's Christmas!!

Phew thats more expensive than I thought. Too much for an old laptop. It says there are 2 slots. Does that mean one of the slots will be empty right now? If I added a 1gb ram would that give me a full 1250mb total? How do u install these?

You could run into compatibility issues if you keep the old stick in there...although I wouldn't be surprised if you have 2 x 128mb sticks in there right now. 1GB is a start and will inject new life into the old thing. Installation should be easy - just look for a panel underneath the laptop..probably with an "M" on it, then it should be 1 screw to remove the panel. When you open it you will see that removal/installation is easy.

Ive just found this site that is a lot cheaper. Are these good prices? There is also a useful installation guide at the bottom.

http://www.offtek.co.uk/product.php?...edium=GoogleDF

So if I keep any of the mem sticks in that are already there it may cause problems? Is that extra 128mb-250mb gonna make a big difference anyway if I put 1gb in.

When youve inserted the new ram does it just integrate itself automatically or do you have to do anything else? Will it show up in systems right away & be up & running?

Ive just found a cheap 1gb for just £10 new. But is it ok for my laptop? I have no idea how specific these need to be or whether the same mem sticks fit all etc

Module Size: 1GB Package: 200-pin SODIMM Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300 Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64 •

Would this work in my laptop?
