What do you think Mad?

thats what would appear to be happening -ie it does boot up -albeit sometimes after several attempts but always after same message
"Invalid Boot.ini file
Booting from C\Windows " ???

I could send you screenshot
Now that I have removed the card reader - I still have "Removable Disk (C (Im going doolally here!)

I have Files Stored on this computer
"Rod`s Documents"

Hard Disk Drives

Local Disk (E FreeAgent Drive (H

Devices with removable storage :

3.5 Floppy (A 3.5 Floppy (B

Removable Disk (C DVD-RW Drive (D

CD-RW Drive (F Removable Disk (G
(Iomega Zip drive)

Scanners and Cameras

Epson CX8300/DX8400

I could send you screenshot --but enclosed is accurate

Does this help solve the riddle in any way

The "warning" on boot up only started recently
The only change I can observe is that it sometimes requires 4 or 5 attempts rebooting before it finally starts

That is why I am loath to reformat and start again AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME

your patience is much appreciated - mines getting frayed around the edges!!

Cheers Crackerjack

So, just to be absolutely clear here before we proceed, Windows has been, and was originally installed on drive E and not C?

You are starting to leave me behind here MM --but from my limited knowledge history is this

On original PC - Windows would be loaded on "C" -I believe (as normal )

When I had my severe problem/crash - technician fitted new hard drive and (dont know exact method ) retrieved as much as he could off old drive (for which I will always be eternally grateful

For some reason new drive received "E" designation -and the card reader for Fuji camera became "C"
But as everything was "WORKING" - and he`d rescued a considerable amount of data from old drive!!!- I wasnt gonna lose sleep !!
(Till now!!!!)

Whilst I have removed USB card reader - it still shows up in "My Computer"

In computer management - it still shows up under Disk Management (lower panel as Disk 3 Removable Disk "C" (no media)

There is "E"--Disk "0"
and Freeagent (external) "H" -as Disk2
(These are only 2 in top panel)
In bottom panel there are these two plus
Disk1 removable G (Iomega Zip)
Removable "C" - Disk 3 - (can this now be deleted/removed from list?)

Then there is
CD rom 0 DVD(D)
Cd Rom 1 cd (F)

All the time it keeps appearing -but either says" no media"/" insert disk" / or in properties -"empty""nil Mb" etc
It seems to be hanging around and preventing hard drive from becoming "C" as it was originally was -do you agree - or am I way off mark??

Had enough for tonight - and probably you two as well

Thanks a lot - and see what you can suggest when you`ve chewed on this
tomorrow
If you want any more info-youve only to ask -I`ll try my best!!

Regards Crackerjack

Hey Crackerjack,

Just to reiterate, the PC was loaded with the HDD designated incorrectly, by the guy who saved your data from your old sad HDD.

I still think that you need to tell the PC to move it's understanding of where the Photo reader goes. You just removed it you didn't reassign it.

Can you please plug that photo reader back in, and see where it becomes assigned?
