Default sync time with domain controller

hi all,
i have this little issue that i donno how to get around, i feel it's pretty simple but i can't get around it.

i have a win2k domain controller and i have all my computers (XP sp2) sync their time with it, what i want is for one of those computers only to offset 15 minutes from the dc time, is there a registry key here or there to achieve this, is there an option in the domain controller to offset that certain computer/account's clock? is there a 3rd party tool to make this happen?

thanks for your help in advance

Hey joe (welcome to PCHF by the way).

Not something that could be configured within a registry key, and to be honest, it's quite an unusual request, so I'm not suprised your having problems finding a solution for this one, but I'm sure we can find an alternative for you.

How are you replicating your time at the moment, using NTP, net time or alternative method? An how is this applied, via group policy, logon script? And also, have you thought of disabling this method for the PC only, and having the PC run on it's own time?

i'm using NTP syncd with a DC, i can't really depend on the computer's own time becoz it's a bit of an old one and if left alone it lags out pretty fast. so i have it syncd with my dc and i have the registry entry for the sync schedule down to every hour instead of 7 days by default.

the request is becoz that computer is our fingerprint/attendence computer and we give our employees 10-15 min delay in attendance.

thanks for your reply madmonkey

Hey Joe,

Many software applications do provide offsetting, but in two exteemes. They will either give you the option to offset by timezone, so every hour. Or, they will give you the option to offset in seconds/milliseconds - The time taken between the time the server responds with a time, to when the client receives and alters the time.

I may having something that will do the job for you joe, if you can wait a couple of days for me to get a few bits together, and I'll post it sometime Saturday. The only requirement for this is that you disable NTP on the client as it stands now, and also the account being used on this computer will need to be a local administrator of the PC for this to work?
