Default Dell Insiron w/ XP issue

Hi All,
My laptop started behaving badly while web surfing. The problem is that at start up my descktop appears after logging in then after a few seconds the taskbar(incl Start button), desktop icons flash on and off then disappear. The weird thing is that the desktop background picture remains. I can access some functions from the Task Manager and if I act quickly enough I can make a wireless connection to the web. If I can get a program to activate the taskbar and icons return momentarily and disappear again.

When the issue first occured I was alerted by my Trend Microvirus program that I should run a scan for an Adware issue. Before I got to shut windows and scan the computer started behaving as described above.

I run Webroot Spyware/Antivirus , Trend Microvirus already. In the meantime I also installed STOPzilla. This scan revealed the Adware and other bad cookie issues and got rid of them.. I can sometimes start a Trend scan from the Task Man but it always aborts at which time it freezes and I have to back out from the Task Man.

The scans have made the a difference in functionality but the desktop problem remains.

Is the a desktop reset proceedure to fix this? Should I uninstall Trend? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

G.

Default Re: Dell Insiron w/ XP issue

Helo and welcome to PCHelpForum.

Firstly to many virus scanners can cause a conflict so removing one will help.

Secondly we need to check to see if you have any nasties on your computer.

If you could click the "Prework" link below in red on my signiture, copy and paste results back here on your thread.

If you have problems working in normal mode you can use safe mode with networking.

Thankyou.
