Pending: xp will not run

i have windows xp home ed. on an emachine
when i turn it on it shows the windows xp and the lil lit up line under it,..then it goes to the E (with an option to f10 or f2)
then to the screen to 'last known configuration' etc.. safe mode...command prompt etc
i cant get to any of those things.. .any of them that ichoose it does thru the same cycle...acts like windows is going to start then
does not start successfully'
any suggestions???????????

Hello soccerm0m,

Do you have an XP disk, or a restore/repair disk at hand?

no cd.... i think it has system restore built in somewhere? but i cant get to it lol if i press f10 i have 4 choices of select boot device but i havent a clue if i should choose one
heres my choices:
4M-TSSTCORPCD/DVDW TS=H552B
3M-WDC WD800BB-22JHCO
GENERIC USB SD READER
IBA FE SLOT 0140 V4110

helpful? im just reading other threads...dont see anything so far that i could do....

Try the top one, if that doesn't work, do the second.

both go to the same 'safe mode safe mmode networking ,last good conf.' etc. page

any other suggestionS?
or should i go find my baseball bat? LOL

When you say 'system restore built in', do you mean a restore partition, or the Windows System Restore utility?

utility i thought.. but i think its more of a restore point b/c i dont have a choice at f10 to 'restore windows' or whatever that is
should i try to find the disc? i think i have a windows xp disc but it doesnt go to this desktop..this one is for my kids... the disc i have goes to my pc
