Having successfully installed a Netgear wireless card yesterday, which gave me internet connection through my Orange Livebox router, I happily went to bed. This morning there was no connection and I tried to reinstall the software via the disc. As a result, I've lost the Windows wireless ican all together. Any advice?

Have you made sure that the connection simply hasn't been disabled? To check this go to Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections and verify that the one you are wanting to run is not greyed out. If it is, right click and select 'Enable'.

It should show wireless connections as well. If no wireless connections are showing, perhaps the card itself has been disabled. Have you tried it in a different port (sometimes this is a quick fix)?

Just before I do that, Chris, surely whether the new card is working or not, I should still be able to see the wireless icon on the right end of the blue bar at the bottom of the screen, shouldn't I. If there's no wireless connection, it would be crossed through - but it would be there, wouldn't it?

You should, but like most things in Windows, one thing is determined by another. I remember having a similar problem once, and reinserting the card in a different port fixed it and got the icon back.
