Windows XP/2000 - desperatley need help!!! posted in the Operating Systems forums; Ive put in the restore disk as jelly bean has said and it started reinstallng windows fine, then it stopped and i have a question its asking me...... Output A:GHOTERR.TXT ...

Default desperatley need help!!!

Ive put in the restore disk as jelly bean has said and it started reinstallng windows fine, then it stopped and i have a question its asking me......

Output A:GHOTERR.TXT ?

below it has the option of yes or no , if i click yes it says this

Cannot open GHOSTERR.TXT - insert diskette

and if i click no it stops the install

what do i do????????

Okay well, select no and it should go to a prompt. Type 'DIR' and select 'GHOST.exe' or similar. This should configure it to run regardless of errors, I don't know it so well but I know the fix is in that executable somewhere.

i selected no and it gave me a warning message with the only option to ok it, then it said the restore was complete and ejected the disk. when i took the disk out it said press any key to restart however it stuck on a black page with lots of white writing

the last two lines read
Verifying from DMI pool data . . . . . . . . . . . . Update success
Boot from CD :


and then a curser is flashing

????

When it says boot from CD, try reinserting the CD.

i get the original options
1:restore windows XP
2:boot to command promt from cd-rom

i just seen your post as well saying not to use the boot disk (in the other thread)
Darn i hope this hasn't messed it up i didnt really want to use this but jelly bean made it sound ike i should :-(

Go to the command prompt, and do the instructions I first said about GHOST.exe.

EDIT: Also, your PC should still be fine, try doing what I said in the thread if you want to move on from JBs suggestion, but that is up to you. I still think repairing is overkill, but it probably won't do any harm.
