Default Boot XP from CD

Hi,

I have recently got a Compaq laptop and decided to give Ubuntu a go as it came without an OS, but have now decided to install XP instead.

However, I cannot boot from the XP CD.

I have no Floppy Drive, so cannot create a bootable floppy disk

I have checked the Bios settings but only have the following Boot options

Notebook Multibay and Notebook hard drive, and it doesnt matter which one is selected as first or second, the laptop will still go straight to loading Ubuntu.

I can get into the command line (Grub\). can i direct the laptop to load from the CD from here?
If so how? If not wot else can i do?

Please help

Hi Cook,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a terrific team of techs here, and I know we will be able to help you.

Just to make sure, you have no problems with your CD drive, you have verified that your CD of XP is OK, and is a stand alone version, for example, not a boot copy for another PC. Have you booted another computer using the XP CD? Also, can you please post the model number of your laptop? Thanks.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Did you make sure to strike a key when it said 'boot from cd'? Or did it simply go straight into GRUB?
