Hello,
This is a peculiar problem faced by me. I have a WAIO 40GB portable hard disk (OEM version), with USB Port. I opened its "Properties" and reset its Autoplay to "Open Folder to View Files". As soon as I did this, the hard disk icon simply vanished from the My Computer Dialog Box. Also "Safely Remove Hardware" was instantly disabled, so I shut down the computer and disconnected the unit from the computer. But subsequently, the said Hard Disk is not readable on ANY COMPUTER. It JUST DOES NOT SHOW UP WHEN CONNECTED. I HAVE ALMOST FIVE YEARS' HARD WORK PUT INTO IT AND SO WD BE GRATEFUL IF ANYONE CAN GIVE A GOOD SUGGESTION !
THANKS IN ADVANCE AND I THANK PCHELPFORUM FOR THIS PLATFORM.

Hi acharyaji,

Welcome to PCHF. I am sorry that it has taken us so long to get back to you. We have a wonderful team of techs on site, and I feel sure that we will be able to help you figure this out.

Are you using a laptop or PC with your portable harddrive? I am wondering if you have any available bays on the PC that we might be able to actually install the harddrive into the computer and get the data off that way.

Most of all, keep breathing, don't panic . We'll look forward to hearing from you, and figure this out, one way or another.

I am using a desk top. I do not understand what u mean by "are there bays available?" I have a couple of USB slots where I can connect any item. Is this what u mean?
Right now the said item is out with a friend who is trying to help> hope to get it back by Monday. Thanks a lot !

I presume that by 'bays', ladygreenwitch means USB ports. In which case, yes.

Hi Guys,

@Hi Chris, no I didn't mean USB ports, I am referring to the bays in the computer where if necessary Arch could install the harddrive from the case he is usinig into the computer.
@Arch, what is the make and model of your PC? I should be able to pull up an image to show you what to look for.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

Hey Arch,

No problem at all. However, I'd like a little more info if you don't mind. Can you please download and install Belarc, from my signature, and save the logto your desktop, and post the resulting log as an attachment, back here.
To post an attachment, when you are posting, scroll down to the Manage Attachments button, click on it.
Click on Browse, locate your log. Click Open. Then click the Upload button.
That file will give us the information to determine your capabilities.

In the mean time, are you still having the HDD not respond to any computer?

As far as replying to your personal account, I am afraid that is not how we do things here, we try to keep all of the quesitons and answers in the forum for other users who may come accross a similar problem.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

TTFN
