Default dropping internet connection on laptop

I have a Dell laptop that connects to my desktop here at home. I have never had connections issues before but I keep dropping the connection on my laptop. 3-4 times in 5 minutes. It is driving me crazy. I see other wireless networks out there in range but don't know how to stop my laptop from looking at them. I keep reading that I need to change my channel but have no clue how to do this. Can anyone help guide me on how to best resolve this.

Thanks

Hi mkb135. Welcome to PC Help Forum.

You should be able to change the frequency channel your router operates on in the router setup. This should be accessed by entering your default gateway in your web browsers address bar.

It will prompt you for a password. (If you didn't set a password, check your routers documents to find out what the defaul is, usually admin or something along those lines)

To check what your default gateway is, if you're unsure:

Start > Connect To > Show All Connections

Right click the connection in hand, and click Status.

Under the Support tab is will tell you what your default gateway is.
Once in your router setup, have a search around for wireless channel or frequency, something along those lines. Usually under the 'wireless' section.

Also, what is your router make and model, just so I can do my homework should you run into any trouble in the setup.

Nick.

Thanks, I was able to locate the area to change the channel and I 'think' I did just that. I guess I will find out. By the way, I have a 2wire router. Hope that did not make a difference. If I still have issues, I will be back.

Thanks again!
