Hi I am having a problem with 20 new machines. Basically when I insert a usb flash drive the pc bing bongs but doesnt show the drive up in my computer. So when I go to device manager I see that there is an unrecognised usb device, so then I click on it and choose update driver and install automatically and it finds it no problem. But once I insert a different USB pen drive the same thing happens and I have to start over.

What could be causing it not to find it automatically!! its the same on every machine!

Are these PC's on a network? Are the USB sticks trying to map another drive (which can't be mapped because of either Admin rights or existing drive letter assignment), as many new secure USB sticks do?

Hi well I have disabled they onboard sd cards etc as they were using drive letters and there are also 3 other network drives redirecting to the server which use X, Y and Z so from E onwards it should get a drive letter!

Also it appears that it doesnt happen on every machine....just a few of them

Hmmm...well you're going to have to compare the setup of those PCs and work out what makes them different. We could spend *forever* fumbling around in the dark for a solution without that information

I Cant see anything different. I have also noticed that it happens with anything thats USB ie digi cam, flash drives etc Its got all the latest updates! strange one
