Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help me. I’m trying to install a program (zip file) from my university website but so far without any luck. (My operating system is Windows XP SP3).
Once I’ve downloaded the file in my computer I open it with WinZip, I extract the files and when I try to execute the .exe file to finally install it, it doesn’t do anything at all. Sometimes the sand clock appears for a few seconds but then it goes and it looks that nothing has happened. Afterwards, when I try to delete it, I get a message saying it can not be deleted because another application is using it, so I have to restart the computer in order to do so.
I know for sure the file is not corrupted because colleagues of mine have downloaded it without problems.
So far I tried the following without success:
-uninstall service pack 3
-install the last version of Windows Installer
-scan my computer for viruses
-open it with the 7zip program

Well that’s it. I would appreciate if someone could help me. Thanks.

Welcome to PCHF.

Suggest you download and install this program (it's free) CCleaner ... Alternative Download.

1. After installing...run the program...
select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
Click on Analyzer...then click on Run Cleaner.

2. On the left side of the window, click on Registry...click on Scan for issues...click on Fix selected issues.

This program will cleanup your temp files and cookies.

If you had been unable to install CCleaner, then you probably would have had a problem with your computer.

Since you were able to install and run CCleaner, then I suspect your problems are with the program that you are trying to install.

You might want to query your colleagues as to what they did to make it work.

Well, actually they didn't do anything out of the extraordinary, it was the usual straightforward process (download-extract-install), I saw it myself so... I don't know.
