Hi. I was fortunate to be given a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro laptop recently. WinXPpro. However, the dvd/cd rom drive doesnt work at all. It doesnt even show up in My Computers. Looking in Device manager there is a yellow circle with black exclam mark in it. The file Slimtype COMBO LSC - 24082K has the following written in its properties; Windows cannot load the device driver for the hardware. Driver may be corrupt/missing. I uninstalled/re-installed like troubleshoot suggested. Ive done restore back as far as it goes, but nothing.

I have all the restore discs but cant use them, obviously. Where can I get the driver for this or what else can I do? Appreciate any advice.

Try this...

Open your Device Manager
click on View ... Show hidden devices

Click on and Delete (with the Delete key) any devices that have a ? or ! in front of them.
If the Device Manager has an "Other" device category, open it and Delete any devices in the "Other" category.
Now, reboot.

The reboot will force Windows to refind the deleted devices and hopefully see them for what they are.
After rebooting, give Windows time to locate and properly install the deleted devices.

Go to the Device Manager and verify that all your devices are listed correctly.

Go to DriverAgent.com Fix Your Driver Problems Instantly with DriverAgent.

After the scan is done, click on the IE Page at the top of your IE window, then click on Save As...
You want to save the report in the .mht format.
Save the scan report to your desktop (that way it will be easier to find).

Attach the driver report to your next reply.

To attach files to a reply, look under the Message text window, you'll see a button that says Manage Attachments.
Click on the button. Now click on the browse button and browse to your desktop to select the previously saved file.

Thanks again but Ive just found a solution that worked finally. Phew!

Its very similar to yours. Heres a quick edit to help others.

First go into the Device Manager uninstall all cd/dvd rom drives.
Next go to Start, Run, type in regedit then click OK! In the Registry go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

When you double left click on that folder in the Left Window, over in the
Right Window you should see either an UpperFilter, LowFilter or both. If
either or both are found, right click on those entries and select: Delete.

After doing that Reboot and any CD drives that you have will be found, and XP
will load a basic driver for your master CD-ROM.
