Thanks, also when I try and do a Windows update, am unable to install office Xp service pack 3, and is asking for Word 200o disc,, which I have, I have tried putting that in but nothing happens!!!! Thanks.

Hi, in response to your question, when I try and switch off from the pc, I get the usual dialogue box about logging off, restarting etc, when I click on switch off, the box disappears but nothing happens, the pc remains on, I have tried walking away and leaving it incase it is slow but nothing happens, the on/off button on pc is still there, it switches off from there but I know that is not good to do that. Thanks

If you have your Windows cd handy do the following:

Click Start > Run > type: cmd > Click OK
at the type: sfc /scannow

After this has completed - download and install the latest windows installer. After you have installed it - try to install SP3 again.

Hiya, have tried scannow and has worked and have managed to install SP3, hurray!!! But, can still not switch off!! Please help!!! Thanks!

Can you please boot into Safe Mode and try shut down from there. Please let me know if works or you still have the same problem in safe mode.

To start in Safe Mode - repeatedly press F8 when the PC first starts, then select Safe Mode from the options.
