Default XP Boot error :/

Hi, I recently got some new ram which I replaced with my previous faulty ram. I put it in, reset the RTC RAM on the mobo so that I could get it to the right timings because otherwise it doesn't work at the right speed. The computer restarted once I set the correct ram timings of 4-4-4-12 and I now get a screen saying an XP system file is missing. I tried a repair install and it crashed half way through and I got a bsod.
Both pictures are attached.

">
There was a flash of a bsod half way through the xp loading screen-still trying to capture. Then it always reboots and the above comes up. Any button I then push makes it reboot.

">

I aim to get xp booting, and hopefully not have to reformat loosing my documents. However that can be done if there is no other way around it.

any help appreciated, thanks jake

Did you get rid of the faulty RAM because it may be needed. This is a RAM error not a XP problem i see you only have some experience but i need some more info though the pictures where very helpful you need to let me know how many RAM slots you have and what type of ram I assuming DDR2 or DDR if so then you need to change place of the RAM sticks i know the saying put the slowest ram closest to the CPU so try that. if it already is then keep switching them around and starting up the computer until XP boots up leaving the slowest ram by the CPU if you only have 2 stick of ram switch there places Ignoring the slowest ram rule. with 3 sticks keep switching them.if there all the same speed them keep switching them.Have Fun

The option to perform a repair install is no longer available, probably becuase gave a bsod last time. I have my documents on a separate partion from the xp one, and I have the option to install on the current bad xp partition. If I did would it delete the other partitions, or would I still have my documents on the other one once installed?

thanks, jake

Reinstalling Windows XP will not solve you problem and probably just make it worse but you probably could just format the bad partition and still have the documents on the other partition unless you made the partition when using the first partition it should be fine. if you made the partition using the first partition then it's probably a partition in a partition and if so then documents will be erased for sure. they way to tell if you can't remember then when you go in install XP it will give you a list of partitions and one will be the documents and the other XP. But like i said it probably won't solve you problem.I still need to know what type of ram you have and how many RAM slots you have

The ram is 2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12

This is brand new, and has only just been replaced from the previous faulty ram which was exactly the same. It is running in duel channel on 2 of the 4 available slots on the motherboard.
Before I changed the speed to 4-4-4-12 is was at the default speed of 5-5-5-18 and xp booted then. Do you think changing it back to that speed would make any difference? I will try now

thanks, jake

Changing It back will most likely fix the issue if not try to switch the ram places around if you haven't already done so
