been having trouble logging pc off for last few days

ive been having to switch it off at the socket

when i try to log it off box appears saying iexploreexe i let the box run even try to cancel it but i still cant log off ive try ctrl alt delete still nothing

ive got windows xp and Norton security and pc seems to be running fine apart from wont log off

What service pack are you currently running? To find out Click Start > Control Panel > System > On the general tab it will list what version of Windows you have and what service pack. E.G Service Pack 2

ive deleted temp files and cookies still no good apart from logging off(which i cant) pc running fine

What service pack are you running? Does it say service pack 2 or 3 when you checked in control panel > system.

It should look something like this.

Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Please post back with this info as it will help to determine your problem.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Internet Explorer as this is the application that is causing the system to hang? If not try that?

Other you can try using system restore to restore your computer back to before you had the problem.

If that doesn't help try running chkdsk. To do this click Start > Run > type: CMD > Click OK
At the prompt type: chkdsk /r
Press Enter - you will be prompted if you want to it to run at next reboot press Y.
Type Exit. Reboot your PC. This will take a while. After it has completed see if it shuts down successfully.
