When i put in the xp cd it asks me if i want to install xp or repair it. i cant type anything i can only choose one or the other but either one i choose it tells me no hard drive detected if i try to install xp or it tell me there are no recovery files found if i try to recover xp. Do you think if i got a new hard drive that would work?

You can try a new hard drive. You can always put the old one into a hard drive caddy and use it as an external storage drive later.

how do y disabling the sata support for the hard drive? If i put a new hard drive into the laptop would it be detected or no since it may be the sata driver or would that come on the new hard drive? again thanks for the help.
