Default 2.7 gigs - 4 gigs memory

I have a EVGA nforce 780i mb and I have 4 gigs of memory in there and it's only showing 2.7. Do you think I have to flash the bios in order for it to see or use 4 gigs of my memory? You can see it in post but when it gets to Windows, it doesn't show all.

Windows 32bit, will only recognize 3.86 gb of total system ram. Windows 64 bit will recognize up to 128 gb(?). If you are running two video cards with 512gb ram they would reduce your usable ram to 2.7, because this is calculated into total system ram.

Actually I can't find a good source for this answer. I trust you though. I'm gonna check some more sources.

I like this explanation. I don't have much understanding of why it is though.

Reader Question: Maximum Memory in 32-bit Windows Vista - Windows Vista help

It seems the limit is 4gb for xp. Practically though, other parts of your system will use some of the ram and limit xp to even less.

I would check the RAM first.

Check wich speed is in first slot if these are rated at diffrent speeds.Check RAM is seated correctly.

Try each stick of RAM individualy incase one or two sticks are bad.

Is any RAM dedicated to a GPU?This will give a lower reading.

When you boot the computer how much RAM shows on post screen?

Is RAM registered in BIOS?
