Well, no, if you see these thubnails in your temp folder, it just means that they were indexed for thubnail preview at some point. If you right click on the thubnail picture, and go to Properties, it will tell you the date the thubnail was created.

If your not able to find the originals then they have probably been deleted. Now restoring deleted files is a different story. The best software I've used for restoring files, and is software that I will always recommend because it has the highest success rate is called R-Studio. The question is, when the pictures were deleted and how much activity has taken place on the disk since that time. Then you will have to weigh up the cost of this software, against how important these pictures are to you. As you may have heard several times before, it is recommended that you always keep backups of all your important data. You never know when your hard drive may fail, or when your files may be accidentally deleted or overwritten. It happens to the best of us.
