Default pc wont boot

hi
ok, i was playing bioshock for about 2 or 3 hours (pretty long stretch, i know)
when i got out of it, the whole computer crashed, screen went black and i felt i had no choice but to switch it off using the on /off button.
anyway, now when i switch it back on, before it boots or anything it says a load of stuff about what might have gone wrong, apologies, and what to select if what went wrong.
these are the options:

safe mode
'' '' with networking
'' '' with command prompt
last know good configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
start windows normally

ive tried all of them, none of them work, it goes to the xp page, then a split second flash of a blue screen (is this the dreaded blue screen of death??) and then repeats the process.
ive checked connections in the case, everything seems fine, no overheats either.

so......any ideas?
all help is great

thanks
