Default Can't boot XP CD at startup

I wanted to reformat my PC but I can't boot at the start up. When it says Boot From Cd... I press Enter, Spacebar all the keys and it doesn't boot? I went to advance bios features and set the boot priory #1 to CD ROM.

Also is there a way to install XP after the computer starts up and do it through the desktop and completely reformat? Because when I tried to do that my C HARD DRIVE didn't reformat. I have files from before there and a fresh XP isntalled. Thanks!

Hi nitric0 - Welcome to PCHF!!

Are you using a wireless keyboard? Try using a wired keyboard (if you don't have one see if you borrow one from a friend), this is a common problem with wireless keyboards.

Is your CD an Original XP cd or a copy?

If you still have a floppy drive in your computer - you could try making XP boot disks and using them to boot to a dos prompt and install XP from there. You will need to have 6 blank floppies to try this. Please post back if you like to try this and I'll give you detailed instructions.

My CD is copied and I have a wired keyboard. I tried different USB keyboards and same problem.

Unfortunately we don't support or condone the use of pirated software at PCHF. You will need purchase a legitimate copy of Windows XP for us to be able to assist you further.
