iv noticed wen iv been usin windows explorer and i select tools thers only map net drive, discon net drive and syncronise as options. i couldnt find the folder options choice anywer on my computer. wen i used help an support 2 search for a shortcut to folder options it says that there are restrictions stoppin me from accessing it and to contact my administrator. i checked user profiles through administrative tools and the accounts on my computer are disabled accept for administrator and the 1 i use which is "me" which is set 2 administrator....the computer is mine with the windows installed by me and any changes to it can have only been done by me. the systems been working fine for well over a year and the problem occured about 1/2 months ago. which area of administrative tools would allow me to correct this also wud it not make sense that i was under administrator? and not 2 accounts those being me and the admin

Hello ultim,
because you are a "Computer Administrator", this does not make you the administrator. The "Administrator" is a default account which is created when Windows is installed in addition to your own account, which offers just a little extra in terms of permissions and funtionality. If there are any files/folders you are having problems accessing, use this account to take bck "ownership". Log on as Administrator (using Safe Mode if you need to), right click on the file or folder and go to Properties. Click on the Security tab, followed by Advanced, Owner tab. Finally Replace owner on subcontainers and objects followed by Apply. |

im not sure wot the pass word for the actual administrators account is, also when i right click any folder or file and select properties there is no security tab....i cant access any form of folder options besides general, sharing and customize....these are the functions that sum sort of policy is blocking me from. i kno thers sum policy in the "local security policy" which is set to stop me usin them but iv no idea wot. i ddnt change it but ther it is. im doing my mcdst exams next week so i shud b kicking myself right now lol

lol, no by default the Security tab is only available to the Administrator account, or if you are a member of a domain (you may find that one in your exam). If you do not remember what the password was set to when Windows was installed, then you may not be able to take ownership of those files. If not password has been set then just use administrator with a blank password.
You can enable the security tab by going to Tools, followed by Folder Options. Click on the View tab and scroll to the bottom. Slap a tick in "Use simple file sharing" and then see if you can take ownership with your own account. |

but im restricted from opening folder options according to the administrator. iv never logged in to the actual admin account. iv been able to do wot i cant do now for well over a year its only been a problem in the last month or so. it only became apparent wen i hid sum files. a week or so l8er i tried to unhide them but i couldnt reach the folder options to doit...to unhide them i was forced to use the search option and tell it to search for hidden files. this way is very annoying and if i need to change other settings i cant. wen i select tools the only choices given are: map network drive, disconnect network drive and syncronize. theres nothin else i can choose.

OK, here is what you need to do to make it visible again:
- Click on the Start, Run - Type “regedit” on the field and click on OK. - Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer - In the right pane, delete the entry “NoFolderOption”. - Restart PC |
