Default Start-up Problem

Hi, y'all! I am new to this group and am honored to be allowed in here. I thought I had a fair amount of computer knowledge, but everytime I turn around, something else comes up that I do not know!

My computer (a Dell 8000 desktop series) has been working just fine until a couple of days ago when I tried to start it up. Instead of going all the way through the start up, I got a message as follows: "Windows could not start because of the following ARC firmware boot configuration problem: did not properly generate ARC name for HAL and system paths. Please check the Windows documentation about ARC configuration options and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."

Well, how can I check the Windows documentation if Windows won't start? I have not idea what hardware reference manuals to which they refer!

Could anyone out there please help me? I will not think so highly of the knowledge I have of computer from here on! This really is a totally new one on me! I need to get to that computer back in use as soon as I can, if possible. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone is willing to send my way!

Thanks,

Anita

Welcome to PCHF.

Don't get down on yourself. We all had to start from the same place.
After forty years of computer work, I find some teenagers know more about todays PC than I do.
