Default xp home plug and play problem

Hey all,

I just installed windows xp Home SP2 for someone and when i boot up, the pc goes into lock up at "Loading your personal settings"

I went in safe mode, deactivated all services and went one by one until I found that it's the plug and play service that is crashing...

Now I can't plug my usb flash drive to install the NIC, so I can't download updates...

And I know I should'nt install XP home, but my client insisted...

So anybody know a work around??

PC Specs

Asus A8N sli deluxe MoBo
AMD 3500+ cpu
2 GB ram
100 GB seagate HDD
80 GB WD HDD
Sony DVD-R

HI I guess you could try a system restore to before the problem

Use System Restore

After you've decided to use System Restore to revert your system to a previous state, start the System Restore Wizard and follow the prompts. To use the System Restore Wizard, make sure you're logged on as an administrator, and then follow these steps:
1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
2.
On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
3.
On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, as shown in Figure 2, and then click Next.

Figure 2

4.
On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, verify that the correct restore point is chosen, and then close any open programs.
5.
Click Next if you are ready to proceed or click Back to change the restore point.
6.
The computer will shut down automatically and reboot. On reboot, you'll see the Restoration Complete page, and then click OK.

I already looked in the system restore and since it's a new installation, I don't have any previous restore points

I've been doing some tests and it does the same thing with XP pro...so I'm now thinking it's related to the motherboard...but I can only see one option for plug and play (os plug and play) and it's enabled...

Anything else that has to be activated???

Have you treid disabling it and rebooted?, if you can get into XP, have you looked in Devices manager, try re-starting the service, if that fails the USB's have failed.
