Default Taskbar Disappeared

hi all

For some reason, the taskbar at the bottom of my screen that shows me my active windows has disappeared.

I still have the quick launch bar and this goes all the way across to the time

If you take a look at the below picture, you can see I have excel open, but its not displayed on the bottom

Is there a way i can get this re-enabled?

The series of dots at the far left side of your takbar indicate that it is unlocked...perhaps you accidentaly dragged it all the way over?
If not right-click the start button scroll to properties, check 'show quick launch'.
Then drag things to where you want them-- and right-click an empty spot on the taskbar-- and check 'lock the taskbar' ...that way things don't move unless you uncheck that box.

thats the thing, if i remove the quick launch bar, the whole taskbar disappears. I am unable to move the dots on the left hand side.

Its not the case of the quick lauch covering the normal area

press Ctrl/Alt/Delete-- all 3 buttons simultaneously.
Go to File/ New Task: type 'explorer.exe' (without quotes) hit enter

post back...

Do you by chance have the install disc for your OS??
Or is it one of those bloody "restore discs"?
I think that some of the minor files in Windows Explorer have become corrupted-- and it will take an install disc to fix it...
