Hello George.

Well if the modem is in your apartment and that is connected to your wireless router as long as you encrypty/password it so your neighbours cannot connect for free you should be fine.

Wireless routers can be wired and wireless depends on what you buy.

Hello George001,

I'm not sure how the apartment complex is setup but you should have no problem using a router. There are things to consider when using your router. Is this going to be an open access point? Will others be sharing this connection? How far do you need your wireless connection to reach? If this is just for your benefit and you want to use your laptop at the pool 300 yards away then you might have a small problem but above that just make sure you setup the router so there are no conflicts with other routers in the area. To answer your second question, you can get something like the Linksys WRT54g which will have cat5 connections and works with wireless as well.

That must be "fun" ---trying to configure a router say --for a condminium association... where everyone wants total access to the web and total privacy from each other...not like a corporate network, at all... hmmmm.

Most wireless routers can be used as wired or wireless.

You can have problems with a wireless in an apartment complex especially if a lot of your neighbours have wireless routers. You can get around this by making sure that you don't use the default SSID and by changing the channel that the router runs on if you are experiencing connection problems.

Also if you're in an apartment it is better to get a

A few good wireless mimo router's are the Netgear Rangemax or the Linksys, see links below:
