I have I livebox router, which has an ethernet port and has wireless capabilities. I currently have one PC (connected via ethernet cable) and two laptops (connected on wireless) connected to the router. The two laptops have no trouble with the router, and have no problems with the internet.
With the PC however, the cable will all of a sudden stop working, even though the router says its connected, and after switching to wireless (the PC has a wireless card), there is still no change.
When I ping the router it will either time out, or come back with a very high ping rate, internet browsing is impossible on the PC.
Now, I logged on to one of the laptops with the intention of checking the browsers configuration pages (while the PC was still on cable) and found that the routers configuration pages were taking a very long time to load (about 2mins a page), but yet I could browse the internet with normal speed. After I shut the PC down, the router's config pages began to load up much quicker, and after I restarted the PC, the cable connection worked as normal. Like I hadn't had a problem in the first place...
Help...?

Hello Artic Moneky
start, run, cmd, ipconfig /all [enter] post the output of that command - don't worry about blocking out the IP as it should be a NAT IP from your router. Hope this will help.

Sorry for the late reply...
All the IP addresses are statically assigned: Results: Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Belkin 802.11g Network Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-17-3F-86-96-80 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.124 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 193.36.79.101 193.36.79.100 Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1D-60-56-38-0C Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.123 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 193.36.79.101 193.36.79.100 Now, I had to enable both of the Network Connections to get this result, but normally, only one is enabled to use the network. Thanks ArcticWolf P.S. I also though that could the fact that the PC has a wireless keyboard and mouse be a problem, I didnt really think so, as the wireless network card is about 4 inches from the router. |

Hello Artic,what is your ISP?
Could you test your speed via Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and post results. Reboot modem as in turn off for one minute then turn back on. Can you go to device manager and update drivers for your network card.. EDIT:I have wireless keyboard and mouse and my USB reciver is right next to my wireless router and have no problems with connections.

Thanks for replying!
ISP is Orange / Freeserve Speed test results: Download: 9566 kb/s Upload: 501 kb/s When I reboot the modem the cable connection works fine, I get a ping to the router with 0ms, but it usually fails again in about 3 hrs. Only just updated the network card drivers, and the same thing happened. I have been toying with this problem for a couple of weeks now and no luck. Thanks ArcticWolf |

Artic you on 10 meg BB?Then your speeds look fine.
As your with Orange?Mmmmm. There does seem they in general have an intermitent internet as a whole. The high ping could be a number of things.Depending on what server/site etc you are visiting. You could try an enable DHCP. What is your ping? You never actualy mentioned it?

Have you tried setting the DNS server on the problem PC to the routers IP address instead of your isp's. This may help your speed problems.
Please post back if this does not help. |
