Default no boot.ini

Hi

when I start my Windows XP I get the message "no boot.ini starting from c:\windows". Then XP boots. I have tried to start with the cd and go into recovery console and try the bootcfg /rebuild but I get a message saying that it can't find any windows installation. I've also tried fixboot and fixmbr.

So I tried to create a boot.ini and set it up acording to MS:How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP
Code:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
I have to drives d:\ witch has windows installed and e:\ that is used for storing. And d:\ is the first drive (0).

But now I get the message saying that it can't start windows because there is a configuration error on the drive and that it could not read from the startdiskett.

Have I set up the boot.ini wrong or is there anything else that I should do?

------Edit------------------------------------------------------------
Now I also get :
A: Drive Error
Press F1 to Resume

Hi Lyxell,
try this as your boot ini file

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)patrition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)patrition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft WindowsXP Proffessional"/fastdetect/NoExecute=Optin

I think it is /NoExecute=Optin that's missing. add it and see

Ian

Hello try this link:"Invalid Boot.ini" or "Windows could not start" error messages when you start your computer

Error message: "Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem"

Make sure you add the correct spacing to these commands.

Check your hard drive actualy shows up on post screen or in BIOS/Setup?

None of those solutions does work.

Windows can start without the boot.ini, but not with so I guess there is where the problem is?
