I don't know what happened, but for some reason my computer refuses to go into standby mode. When I go to start, hit shut down, and go to choose the standby mode option I click on it and nothing happens. I also have the time settings entered in the power options under control panel, but the computer never goes into standby mode after the specified times. Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

First check if this works(it manually creates a standby link):

Create a new shortcut, and paste this into Target line
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

If that doesn't work you may be missing powrprof.dll which is in your system32 folder.
