okay, not sure if this is the right spot to put this, but I need help. We currently have a Dell Dimension E520 with Windows XP. So far it's "crashed" twice. The first time was when we tried to update iTunes. We allready had iTunes on our computer, but they had released an update to it. More recently, I tried to play WoW. Once it loaded, I got on and played for an hour. It worked great. Then I called it a night. The next day when I woke up, my computer was on a blue screen with writing. When i shut down my computer and turned it back on, the same screen popped up. I shut it down and booted it into safey mode. Then I uninstalled WoW and it worked perfectly. How can I fix this, because I really want to play WoW.

Hello wanna, welcome to PCHF.
Can you check out the B S O D link on my signature. It describes how to post a log of the Blue Screen of Death you received when WoW was installed. We can then analyse the log and find out what was going on at the time. |

Should be, It's my friends. He has these guest pass things that I was using to make sure I didn't waste money if my computer doesn't work. He gave it to me in the case and everything. It says on the bottom "Game DVD-Rom". Do you think it could be because he used it already?

Sorry, I can see the problem,
OK, the problem is related to your internal conexant 56k modem driver, believe it or not. WoW appears to be replacing a specific system file called "hsfhwbs2.sys" with it's own variant, obvisouly not on purpose, but to facilitate the running of the game. Unfortunately, when Windows comes to load the driver, and encounters this strange system file pretending to be part of your Conexant modem driver, it displays this Blue Screen of Death. These are your possible solutions: a) Don't play WoW ( Try and stop me I can hear you saying )b) If you don't use your internal modem, then disable it from My Computer, Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager. Under the section of "Modems", right click on your Conexant device, and then go to Properties. Under "Device Usage", change it to Disabled. And then try installing WoW again. c) If you are using that modem, then it may be worth spending an extra $10 for the sake of playing WoW for a replacement modem. At first look, I thought this problem when that file was being replaced was a virus, as this particular system file is easy to attack. |
