Ok lets try a few simple things?

Firstly pulling the cord is not a good idea it causes hardware damage.

Lets try a few simple things.

While powered off remove BIOS battery for one minute then replace reboot.

See if that works.

Next disconnect hard drive and remove all RAM.

Put one stick of RAM in and reboot see if you get post screen.

Then remove that stick and put in another and reboot do this for every stick you have.

If you do get the post screen can you double check your BIOS setup?

Make sure all PCI cards are connected and pushed in fully.

Possible problems :Error Tone. (two sets of different tones)Problem with logic board or SCSI bus.
Startup tone, drive spins, no videoProblem with video controller.

Sorry it took so long....I got a phone call.

I removed the BIOS battery and there was no change....when I powered on I had to hit reset to complete the boot sequence.

Lets see if I got this next set correct;

Disconnect HDDs (I got two)
Remove RAM
Put one stick of RAM back in
Reconnect HDDs
Reboot to see if I get to post screen

If I get the post screen you want me to double check the BIOS setup....what am I checking for..??

Is this right...??

/R

Yes test the RAM although I do not think this is the issue.

Have you tried just disconnecting the main C drive?

Have you got a spare HDD to try and use XP disk to try and install xp?

I am just wondering maybe you changed some thing in there by mistake?

Or try setting HDD to first boot.

Is there a light on your mainboard?Do you feel the hard drive vibrate when PC is on.

Yes, I have two HDDs in the computer.

I install a new HDD partitioning the drive as C and D, keeping the C partition clean using is only for the OS. The D drive has my programs and files; the old drive was kept installed and re-labeled to E.

Since this problem has surfaced I have disconnected the new drive and reconnected the old drive, two or three times, using it as the master to boot. I have no troubles using the old HDD meaning I don't experience the black screen.

When I installed the second HDD I used the XP recovery disk to install the OS.....after that I went through hours of upgrades as the recovery disk is an 2002 version of XP.

I'm going to power down now and change the BIOS to have the HDD boot first, as you suggest.

Tks

So you get the post screen using another HDD?

Are you using SATA HDDs or IDE?

Can you check were they are connected like if it is SATA it should be in port 0 for C drive.Port 1 for slave.
