I turned my PC off by the wall instead of shutting it down. When I next when to turn it on I got the blue screen of death.

I have tried in safe mode & rebooting, but it just goes straight to the blue screen.

Can anyone help please. btw I'm a bit of a technophobe & don't really know that much about PC's.

When you first turn computer on do you see the post screen?Black screen with white words?

Do you see your hard drive etc listed there?

Have you tried rebooting/restarting the PC and repeatedly tap F8 and choose last known good config?

The blue screen can you get any error codes if any please?

The error code is 0x00000024

Is your hard drive listed on the post screen?

Switching off by the plug wall socket is what we call a type of power out this can cause untold damage to your computer.

If you have the operating disk reboot pc and press some thing like F1 or F2 or Del wich ever you are prompted on your screen to enter BIOS/Setup.Set first boot device to CD/DVD rom put in operating diak then follow this link:How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

I just read up that you might need to install the latest XP update.

to check if you have it go to Start then Control Panel then go on Add or Remove Programs check mark the Show Updates button and scroll to the bottom and what ever does not say installed on xx/xx/xx then click on it then follow the link.
