Unhappy windows 2000 pro OS question

I installed AVG anti virus free version on my second home computer and it warned that I had an old version of Roxio cd burner program and I needed to upgrade. It directed me to the site and I did the upgrade. The AVG then was installed and upon restart it is now caught in an endless cycle of rebooting. What happened? I am not able to get the AVG license since it is on the rebooting computer. Can anyone help? My son thinks it is a Bios problem, but I don't dare try to fix that myself. If it is the bios, best to take the cpu in? thanks for this forum.

Welcome to PC Help Forum.

Did you try any of the "safe mode" booting options?

1) Switch your PC off
2) Switch it on and start tapping the F8 button every second
3) When a menu appears, select the "Last known good configuration" option and press enter

...then let us know how it goes..

Hello Bobbie Loophole,

I am going to make some assumptions here. First you are trying the new version 8 AVG? If so then What format do you use? NTFS or FAT32? As I read it the new AVG has some issues with FAT32 and other things as well. At any rate try booting to safe mode. Maybe you can retrieve what you need then I would uninstall AVG 8 and reinstall AVG 7.5 for now.

Also when installing AVG 8 I have noticed there are links to patches for this software, you should notice these while you are installing AVG.

I agree with you LC.

Reboot and repeatedly tap F8 on startup, some times this may take a few attempts and restarts to get to safe mode or last known good config.
